Position Summary
The Health and Safety Manager is accountable for the establishment and oversight of tailored, extensive Health and Safety initiatives across designated sites. These initiatives will align with the guidelines set forth by Sparrow Company's Health and Safety Department and its overarching safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a culture focused on safety as the primary objective to achieve an injury-free environment.
- Research and implement best practices to formulate detailed, site-specific Health and Safety regulations that foster a zero-injury and zero-preventable incident ethos.
- Provide expert guidance and support on Health and Safety training programs to meet regulatory standards and address unique operational safety challenges.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with relevant safety laws and regulations.
- Assist in conducting thorough investigations and root cause analyses of incidents, ensuring that corrective measures are effectively implemented to prevent future occurrences.
- Advise management on strategies for managing employees recovering from injuries through a structured return-to-work process.
- Engage in audits of Health & Safety Management Systems and contribute to necessary follow-up actions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or 3-5 years of experience in health and safety management or a related field.
- Relevant safety certifications (CSP, CIH, CMSP, CDS, etc.) are advantageous.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies such as DOT, OSHA, and MSHA.
- Proven ability to manage health and safety programs effectively.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently as a self-starter.
- Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities through previous roles.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups, including employees, supervisors, and regulatory authorities.
Working Environment
- Regular exposure to various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and noise levels.
- Mandatory use of protective equipment while on-site.
Physical Demands
- Job requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
- While the role involves primarily sitting, it also includes brief periods of walking or standing.
- Effective communication is essential for safety around heavy machinery and equipment.
