Job Description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced construction craftsman to join our team at Indian River County Habitat for Humanity. The successful applicant will have expertise in finishing construction techniques and skills, with a strong ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-facing role.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise overall construction activity and provide day-to-day leadership to construction activity.
  • Work closely with the Senior Construction Supervisor to ensure materials and service needs are provided in a timely manner.
  • Support job site supervision of experienced and inexperienced volunteers.
  • Evaluate and implement good safety practices and constantly stress same with house leaders and volunteers.
  • Communicate effectively with volunteers and ensure they have a consistently good experience.
  • Anticipate problems and issues typical of this ministry and personally act on same if necessary to help ensure schedules are met and work plans are enabled.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge and experience in the construction/contracting business.
  • Residential construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to teach construction skills to inexperienced volunteers required.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with others.

  • Good listener and able to engage in well-considered discussions.
  • Ability to understand the big picture of the Habitat Ministry and know that construction is a part of the larger goal.
  • Punctual and on-time.

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of fifty (50) pounds. This position also requires manual dexterity to operate equipment as necessary. Indian River Habitat expects all employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the Affiliate.
