Nurse Practitioner

Opelousas General Hospital is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care to patients utilizing the nursing process, perform technical nursing functions, and uphold the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for our step down patients.
Key Responsibilities- Utilize the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
- Provide direct patient care.
- Perform nursing functions, applying professional skills.
- Document and maintain data on patient's record.
- Maintain a safe environment.
- Apply basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
- Provide for life support.
- Act as a patient advocate.
- Cooperate as a member of the nursing unit, department, and overall hospital team.
- Participate in performance improvement.
- Delegate and / or supervise aspects of care to team members and review completion.
- Perform related work as required.
- Communicate pertinent data to appropriate parties.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Conduct himself/herself effectively in stressful situations.
- Approach situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
- Collaborate with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
- Properly assess and manage patient populations with appropriate intervention.
- Administer intravenous medications and / or parenteral nutrition.
- Administer blood products and evaluate patient response.
- Associates degree from accredited school of nursing required.
- Bachelor's degree from accredited school of nursing preferred.
- Louisiana licensed Registered Nurse required.
- CPR required.
- ACLS preferred.
- One year RN experience preferred.
- Current knowledge of clinical practice.
- Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
