Under the guidance of departmental leadership, you will implement quality control testing strategies on Versiti's blood supply to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and produce platelet products in line with operational benchmarks.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Swing shift, with availability for an 8-hour shift between 7:00am-7:30pm
Monday-Friday; on-call availability as necessary
Full Time, Non-Exempt position
Training schedule may vary from standard hours.
COMPENSATION:
Hourly rate commensurate with experience - paid training included
Eligible for benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance options, 7% 401(k) match, EAP, employee wellness program, generous PTO, and more.
Shift differentials for evenings/weekends: Evenings (after 6:00pm) - $1.50/hr.
Weekends - $2.00/hr.
A valid driver's license is a requirement for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Understand and execute laboratory activities in accordance with all relevant regulatory and compliance standards.
Conduct and assess quality control testing on blood products utilizing hematology analyzers, pH meters, and WBC counting technologies.
Manufacture blood products including RBCs and PLTs.
Ensure equipment maintenance through daily quality control and preventative measures.
Engage in proficiency testing for CAP surveys.
Label blood products in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Accession and prepare blood donor sample tubes for infectious disease testing when applicable.
Oversee reconciliations, lot release, and client sample release for infectious disease testing.
Execute pathogen reduction processes on blood products as necessary.
Conduct donor antigen testing and antibody titrations when applicable.
Facilitate validation procedures to qualify new production methods.
Assist in the annual revision of procedures.
Support trainers by coordinating and maintaining staff training and competencies.
Maintain competencies in essential tasks within Core Production and/or Hospital Services.
Manage equipment reagent inventory levels for daily laboratory operations.
Delegate, monitor, and motivate team members.
Collaborate with Leads and Supervisors to enhance communication between management and staff.
Participate in weekend, vacation rotations, and on-call duties as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Adhere to all policies and standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in biology or a related field preferred.
Associate's Degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology, or equivalent experience may be accepted by management.
Experience:
1-3 years of relevant work experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance instructions, and departmental manuals is essential.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities are required.
Demonstrates empathy and seeks to understand the customer’s perspective.
Ability to adapt work activities based on volume, priorities, and interruptions is necessary.
Flexibility to work independently and collaboratively across departments is essential.
Accountability to key performance indicators and departmental objectives is required.
Tools and Technology:
Proficiency with general office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine) is required.
Experience with computers (desktop, laptop, tablet) is necessary.
Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
Experience with software systems (Blood Establishment Computer Systems, Title 21) is necessary.
Knowledge of laboratory-specific equipment, including but not limited to:
