As a member of the Tippecanoe County Government, the Juvenile Probation Officer/Intake Unit is pivotal in executing comprehensive investigations, assessments, and overseeing clients.

DUTIES:
  • Conduct essential Probation Officer responsibilities in accordance with state legislation and Probation protocols.
  • Carry out intake processes for juveniles post-arrest or truancy referrals, which includes processing and executing preliminary inquiries.
  • Assist in conducting risk/needs evaluations, mental health assessments, and other intake-related tasks.
  • Facilitate detention and court proceedings, ensuring compliance and performing necessary evaluations.
  • Maintain precise case documentation, prepare reports, and collaborate with community service organizations for the benefit of probationers and their families.
  • Provide public information and engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in various task forces and committees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Baccalaureate Degree.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Certification as a Probation Officer by the Indiana Judicial Center.
  • Proficient understanding of local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Exceptional communication abilities with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Capability to manage legal proceedings while upholding confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in computer operations and report generation.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel for training purposes.
DIFFICULTY OF WORK:As a Juvenile Probation Officer/Intake Unit, you will undertake a wide array of responsibilities that require sound judgment, adaptability to varying cases, and strict adherence to established protocols.
RESPONSIBILITY:Exercise independent judgment within standard policies and seek assistance when encountering complex situations. Ensure compliance and sound decision-making in accordance with departmental guidelines.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:Maintain effective communication with various stakeholders while reporting directly to the Juvenile Intake Supervisor.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Engage in office, courtroom, and community tasks that may involve physical activities such as lifting, carrying, and driving. Be prepared for diverse working hours and potential exposure to challenging situations.
