Position Overview:
A Certified Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in the pharmaceutical services within a healthcare setting.

Under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist, the technician aids in the provision of medications to patients across various departments including inpatient and outpatient care, emergency services, and surgical units.

The responsibilities encompass selecting, measuring, compounding, packaging, labeling, and delivering medications to the designated areas.

Proficiency in navigating electronic health records and utilizing pharmacy automation systems is essential.

Technicians will rotate through different pharmacy sectors to enhance their skills and maintain competency across all job functions.


Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) is mandatory
Certification must be obtained through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the ExCPT Certification by the National Healthcareer Association
Active registration with the state pharmacy board as a Certified Pharmacy Technician

Key Responsibilities:


Trained to assist in the preparation of non-sterile medications by selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, labeling, and delivering medications according to departmental protocols.

Ensures accurate selection and labeling of medications. Measures and mixes ingredients using appropriate calculations and techniques. Operates Automated Dispensing Machines, managing loading, refilling, unloading, and addressing discrepancies.

Inventory Management:
Responsible for timely and accurate fulfillment of stock orders and emergency supplies.

Efficiently transports medications from the pharmacy to various locations (including tubing, cart delivery, IV runs, and urgent requests).

Maintains inventory control through stock rotation, removal of expired items, and restocking of medications and supplies as needed.

Ensures proper storage conditions for all medications.
Maintains an accurate inventory of controlled substances and oversees the documentation related to these items. Reports any discrepancies in controlled substances to a supervisor immediately.
Enhances workflow by completing tasks efficiently and prioritizing responsibilities. Demonstrates a solid understanding of job functions and applies sound technical and procedural judgment. Assists with additional duties as required for effective pharmacy operations. Exhibits initiative and adaptability in daily tasks. Employs logical problem-solving techniques and communicates critical issues to the appropriate personnel promptly.
Utilizes pharmacy technology effectively. Adheres to departmental standards, policies, and workflows. Maintains pharmacy automation systems (including changing consumables and performing routine cleaning). Identifies, troubleshoots, and reports any issues with pharmacy automation. Accesses patient information, processes prescription messages, and generates labels within the electronic health record system.
Responds professionally to inquiries from pharmacists, nursing staff, physicians, patients, and others via various communication methods. Effectively manages and prioritizes requests to ensure timely follow-up. Participates in the training of new staff members.
