Job Overview:

A Certified Pharmacy Technician I plays a vital role in the pharmacy operations at TriHealth. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the technician assists in the distribution of medications to patients in the hospital, including inpatient and outpatient units, emergency room, and operating room.

The technician is responsible for selecting, counting, compounding, packing, labeling, and delivering medications to the units. They must be proficient in accessing and viewing the electronic health record and utilizing pharmacy automated systems.

Job Requirements:
  • High School Degree or GED
  • Active National Pharm Tech Cert (CPhT) is required
  • Approved cert is through Pharm Tech Cert Board (PCTB) and ExCPT Cert by the National Healthcareer Association
  • Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician
Job Responsibilities:

The Certified Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for:

  • Assisting in non-sterile medication preparation by selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, scanning, labeling, filling, and delivering medications per department guidelines
  • Selecting the appropriate medications and accurately labeling
  • Weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients by using proper calculations, equipment, and technique
  • Working Automated Dispensing Machine, able to load/refill/unload, outdate, and resolve discrepancies
Stock Orders/Emergency Carts/Boxes:

The technician is responsible for:

  • Accurately and efficiently transporting medications from the pharmacy to areas outside of the pharmacy
  • Responsible for inventory control through stock rotation, removal of expired medications, reordering/stocking of medications/supplies when stock is low, and packaging/assembling medications for future dispensing
  • Ensuring safe storage of medications
  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate controlled substances (CII-CV) inventory and for reviewing and maintaining controlled substance records
