What We Seek:

The LVN in the Message Center operates under the guidance of the LVN Manager to ensure efficient functioning of the Appointment Message Center. This role involves managing a high volume of incoming calls and addressing patient inquiries with competence, assessing patient needs effectively. The LVN will collaborate with healthcare providers to promote clinical efficiency and productivity. Responsibilities also include assisting in areas beyond the scope of practice for support staff, with a strong emphasis on thoroughness and patient care. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and document incoming calls, providing courteous and effective guidance to patients under clinician supervision.
  • Process prescription refills in accordance with established standing orders.
  • Utilize nursing expertise to respond promptly and professionally in emergency situations, adhering to clinic protocols.
  • Take comprehensive messages, evaluating patient needs and ensuring timely communication regarding lab results, medications, and other patient interactions.
  • Resolve issues by clarifying concerns, researching solutions, and implementing appropriate actions, while escalating unresolved matters as needed.
  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments for tests and procedures as directed by clinicians.
  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced environment, ensuring a positive and supportive attitude towards patients and colleagues.
  • Adapt to varying workloads while managing multiple tasks to maintain optimal patient flow in the call center.
  • Engage in patient education, reinforcing understanding of program and insurance guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively within a teaching organization, supporting interns and residents while fostering a safe and patient-centered environment.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity, effectively engaging with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Perform other responsibilities as outlined in the official job description.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited LVN program is necessary. Alternative qualifications may be considered based on California state standards.
  • Licensure/Certification: Active and unrestricted California LVN License required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited program is also necessary.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as an LVN is required, with preference given to candidates with experience in an FQHC outpatient setting.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, along with the ability to translate medical information. Strong public relations skills and professional telephone etiquette are essential.
  • Work Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for sponsorship.
