Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Paralegal to join our team in supporting the delivery of legal services to vulnerable children. The successful candidate will provide critical support to our attorneys, supervise paralegal staff, and contribute to the development of our legal strategy.
Key Responsibilities- Program Management: Oversee the overall programmatic function of the KIND office paralegal program, ensuring the provision of high-quality paralegal support to the legal team.
- Supervision and Training: Onboard, train, and supervise paralegal staff, including conducting initial and ongoing training, providing quality assurance, and conducting regular check-ins and performance evaluations.
- Legal Research and Support: Conduct legal research, complete immigration benefit forms, and draft affidavits and motions for immigration and state court proceedings in consultation with attorneys.
- File Maintenance and Data Entry: Ensure consistent, accurate, and timely file maintenance and data entry into our case management system.
- Client Support: Assist clients in preparation for hearings and adjudicatory interviews, and provide support to clients in diverse institutional settings.
- Professional Development: Assist with the professional development of paralegal staff, including training and coaching, and contribute to the development of our legal strategy.
- Metrics and Reporting: Track and ensure referral and intake metrics achievement under grants and contracts in consultation with attorneys.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's or undergraduate degree with 1 year of relevant experience, or high school diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Language Skills: Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Experience Working with Children: Minimum of 4 years of experience working with children, preferably at-risk youth, immigrants, or refugee children, and/or working with vulnerable populations, survivors of abuse, human trafficking, or other trauma.
- Immigration Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in humanitarian-based immigration work, including conducting legal intakes, assessing legal claims, and assisting attorneys on legal applications to obtain immigration benefits.
- Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in supervising or coaching others on programs and/or projects.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail.
- Cultural Competency: Strong cultural competency and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (such as Teams, Excel, etc.).
