Lead Linux Systems Engineer

The team is responsible for constructing and managing user environments, offering expert guidance, and delivering application-level software and tools to the scientific and engineering sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute Linux system administration tasks
- Oversee the installation and updating of Linux operating systems
- Assist users with application installations and upgrades
- Install software and resolve installation-related issues
- Monitor system performance and conduct hardware troubleshooting, tracking, resolution, and routine maintenance along with security updates
- Perform system backups and facilitate data recovery processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience in Linux administration and troubleshooting. Relevant certifications may substitute for experience.
- If lacking a degree, a minimum of six years of pertinent experience is acceptable.
- U.S. Citizenship is mandated for contract compliance to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q clearance.
- At least two years of experience with Linux (preferably RedHat or Ubuntu), including OS installation, network configuration, and package/patch management.
- Experience in creating, executing, and managing Ansible playbooks.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems through strong analytical, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong technical aptitude with the capability to independently research and resolve complex issues.
- Familiarity with bash shell scripting and other programming languages (such as Python, Perl, or Ruby).
- Experience in another IT domain, such as Storage, Networking, Databases, or Cyber Security.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in customer service.
- Commitment to adhering to IT Operations best practices and procedures, including issue management and incident response.
- Awareness of information security best practices.
