Position Overview:

MedStar Health is seeking a PRN Unarmed Security Officer to contribute to the safety and security of our healthcare environment.

As an Unarmed Security Officer, your primary responsibility will be to maintain a secure atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors.

You will conduct regular patrols of the facility, respond to assistance requests, and report any conditions or individuals that may pose a risk to the safety and security of all present. Your role will also include mentoring and training fellow security personnel, and stepping into a leadership position when necessary.

In this vital role within a 24/7 operational framework, flexibility in scheduling is essential, including the possibility of working non-standard hours. You may also be required to obtain and maintain the necessary commission to perform duties related to crime prevention and response as designated for Unarmed Officers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to emergencies, providing essential support to staff and visitors. Conduct assigned security patrols throughout the facility, which may include foot, vehicle, or bicycle patrols. Manage access control and inspect belongings of individuals exiting the premises. Document and report any safety, security, or legal infractions. Monitor the security and condition of common areas, including lobbies and entrances.
  • Conduct patrols of the facility using various modes of transportation. Prepare detailed reports and logs of incidents, investigations, and activities. Maintain accurate department records and files. Utilize nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.
  • Assist with navigation, parking, deliveries, and inquiries related to the hospital and its affiliates. Respond to security and medical emergency codes. Investigate incidents and gather relevant information and evidence. Notify appropriate authorities and request additional support when necessary.
  • Provide testimony in legal proceedings as required. Safeguard patient valuables and manage lost-and-found items. Oversee surveillance and security technology systems as directed. Respond to situations where law enforcement authority may be necessary.
Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in security, corrections, or law enforcement.
  • 1-2 years of experience within MedStar may substitute for direct law enforcement experience.
  • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • SPO certification.
IAHSS certification is preferred.
