Position Overview: The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive nutritional care and education for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, aligning with physicians' diagnoses. This role is integral to the multidisciplinary care team, ensuring that patients identified as nutritionally at risk receive appropriate assessments upon admission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' nutritional health based on established criteria.
  • Gather essential data from medical records to evaluate patients' nutritional conditions.
  • Create tailored nutritional care plans for individuals across all age groups.
  • Adapt nutritional strategies to respect and incorporate the cultural backgrounds of patients.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of nutritional interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians to enhance patients' nutritional health through appropriate interventions.
  • Assist in the development and execution of nutrition care programs, ensuring uniformity and quality.
  • Engage professionally with patients and their families, providing education and counseling to facilitate positive dietary changes.
  • Ensure all patient care activities are conducted in a safe environment, minimizing the risk of healthcare errors.
  • Promote a culture of safety and quality within the healthcare setting.
  • Provide physicians with information regarding food-drug interactions.
  • Support the onboarding and training of new staff within the department.
  • Foster collaborative relationships within the department and across other departments.
  • Maintain documentation that adheres to current standards and policies.
  • Conduct educational sessions for hospital staff, clinic personnel, and community members as needed.
  • Treat all patients and their families with utmost respect and dignity.
  • Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
  • Successful completion of the national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Commitment to ongoing education to maintain professional registration.
  • Licensure as a dietitian in states with such requirements.
  • Certification in Medical Nutrition Therapy (LMNT) is mandatory.
