Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at the City of Durango. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our recreation center, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain the assigned building, including sweeping, mopping, buffing, and waxing floors, as well as dusting furniture and polishing glassware and windows.
  • Remove trash from building grounds and empty trash cans, and perform routine inspections on all lights and electrical outlets to maintain working order.
  • Perform minor repairs in the building, including painting assigned areas, and clean and maintain outside grounds area, including removing snow during winter months.
  • Set up and take down equipment, and adhere to set-up instructions provided by assigned staff.
  • Perform a variety of recording functions, including maintaining logs on all work performed and equipment used, and preparing a monthly report.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No experience necessary, but ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions is essential.
  • Ability to use and operate custodial equipment, including a buffer, vacuum cleaner, chair and table dollies, and a variety of electric and power hand tools.
  • Ability to work in an inside and outside environment, with exposure to cleaning solutions and hazardous chemicals.
Work Environment

The Custodian will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interactions with staff and visitors. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others is essential.

Physical Demands

The Custodian will be required to stand, walk, lift, and bend for prolonged periods of time, with moderate to heavy lifting. The ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or crawl, speak and hear, and lift is also required.
