Job Description

About the Role

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced Substation Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for the physical layout and design of transmission and distribution substations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement substation design concepts and solutions
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure design meets client requirements and industry standards
  • Prepare and review technical plans, blueprints, and drawings
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and designers

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 10+ years of experience in substation design and engineering
  • Knowledge of physical design techniques, tools, and principles
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Familiarity with Bentley Substation, BlueBeam, and other design software
  • Experience with substation grounding calculations and direct stroke shielding calculations
  • Transmission line and protection & controls experience
  • Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards
