Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide a wide range of pre, peri, and post-operative care to orthopedic surgical patients. The PA or NP will participate under the supervising surgeon's direct, general, or personal supervision in the office and hospital settings.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement treatment plans to address clinical issues from patients, office, and hospital staff to include phone, electronic, or face-to-face inquiries.
- Apply cast and splinting techniques to ensure proper patient care.
- Perform procedures at various hospital settings under physician supervision (direct/indirect) commensurate with training, experience, and/or credentialing.
- Assist with admitting patients and placing admission orders.
- Conduct detailed History & Physicals to assess patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial status.
- Perform Consultations to discuss patient care and treatment plans.
- Document patient progress and inpatient rounding to ensure accurate and timely care.
- Conduct outpatient clinic exams to assess patient's medical condition.
- Discharge patients, place discharge orders, and write discharge summaries to ensure seamless care.
- Assess patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial status to identify areas for improvement.
- Make referrals to other health professionals and community agencies as needed.
- Order and interpret diagnostic laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging studies to inform treatment decisions.
- Develop and implement treatment plans to address patient's medical needs.
- Order medications and write prescriptions by word of mouth, telephone, or other means of communication.
- Place perioperative orders to ensure patient safety.
- Place transfer orders to facilitate patient care.
- Perform bedside procedures, including wound debridement, incision and drainage, biopsies, etc.
- Complete all documentation within 48 hours of the encounter.
- Comply with local billing and coding regulations to ensure accurate reimbursement.
- Assist with first or second assist for minor and major procedures/surgeries.
- Provide wound care, including debridement, irrigation, closure, and bandaging.
- Repair lacerations, including simple, intermediate, and complex cases.
- Perform other clinical procedures and duties as requested.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology to effectively communicate with patients and healthcare teams.
- Excellent phone skills and customer service to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Organized and able to set priorities and multitask to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Physician Assistant - Studies or related degree.
- Completion of an APAP-approved program with 60 hours of didactical training in pharmacology.
- Current PA licensure and certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- 1-3 years of surgery experience or completion of a PA surgical residency program.
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
