Water Quality Technician

The State of Connecticut is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Environmental Monitoring Specialist. This is a seasonal position that will involve conducting water quality sampling, field collection of fish and macro-invertebrate samples, and laboratory preparation of samples.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct water quality sampling at various locations, including state park beaches, lakes, and rivers.
- Field collection of fish and macro-invertebrate samples, and water temperature probe deployment.
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis, and operate water quality monitoring instruments.
- Enter data into a database, and perform data quality assurance checks.
- Assist with literature searches, data analysis, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with water quality monitoring, aquatic biology, limnology, ecology, microbiology, entomology, and/or environmental science.
- Knowledge of GIS and programming languages, such as R or Python.
- Experience working with boats and operating water quality monitoring instruments.
This is a seasonal position that will involve working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. The selected candidate will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with the possibility of up to 40 hours per week.
