The Healthcare Billing Specialist is accountable for the precise collection and documentation of payments received for services provided. This role may involve verifying insurance details.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits proficiency in the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Self-Leadership, Leadership of Others, or Leadership of Leaders.
  • Ensures accurate processing of charge tickets as patients depart the facility.
  • Reviews and codes tickets for precision and completeness, determines applicable fees for services rendered, calculates totals, collects the correct amount from patients, and accurately records information.
  • Maintains appropriate cash levels; balances cash drawer in accordance with company protocols; reconciles daily coding input with actual monetary deposits.
  • May be tasked with entering charge information, including hospital or satellite services, into an online entry system.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to follow up on accounts until balances are resolved or accounts are referred for collection, adhering to collection policies.
  • Directs patients to supervisors or Accounts Receivable representatives for clarification or discussion regarding accounts and/or payment terms, following collection policy guidelines.
  • Operates and maintains credit and collection equipment while ensuring an adequate supply inventory.
  • Assists with coding and resolving discrepancies.
  • Provides patient education regarding insurance plans.
  • May manage files containing referral slips, insurance documents, and waivers.
  • May assist in the referral process.
  • Adheres to CHRISTUS guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), aimed at preventing or detecting unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Utilizes effective oral and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and positively, in alignment with the CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Follows established CHRISTUS policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Implements job responsibilities in a manner consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics, while supporting CHRISTUS's cultural diversity objectives.
  • Supports and adheres to the CHRISTUS Service Guarantee.
  • Operates telephone, computer, copier, fax machine, and 10-key calculators proficiently.
  • Possesses strong mathematical and communication skills.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of one year of billing experience, including ICD9, CPT, and HCPCS coding in a healthcare setting, is required.

Work Schedule:

8AM - 5PM, Monday to Friday
