POSITION SUMMARY:
The Meat Procurement Specialist is accountable for sourcing, managing inventory, and ensuring the rotation of all fresh meat and related products available for member retailers. The role emphasizes enhancing sales of these products while securing the best possible pricing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Each individual at Associated Wholesale Grocers is expected to deliver exceptional customer service to our members, thereby supporting their efforts to boost sales and profitability.
- Initiate orders via phone or directly with vendor representatives.
- Engage with members over the phone to take orders, provide current pricing, and negotiate bulk purchases.
- Coordinate meat deliveries with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure optimal quantities and product freshness.
- Negotiate favorable pricing while staying informed about market trends and conditions.
- Address and resolve any issues related to meat suppliers for member stores.
- Review daily meat deliveries, accounts payable documents, and supplier invoices for accuracy.
- Maintain up-to-date records on all assigned products within the inventory management system.
- Inspect coolers to assess product quality and ensure proper rotation.
- Evaluate all promotional sales, A-Maps, E.B.A.'s, and pre-booked items.
- Utilize computer systems to generate purchase orders and maintain accurate records for all assigned products.
- Apply basic mathematical skills to determine required quantities and analyze pricing changes.
- Make informed purchasing decisions on a daily basis.
- Exhibit strong communication skills when interacting with members and suppliers.
- Operate office equipment such as calculators, copiers, and fax machines.
- Demonstrate the ability to comprehend and retain essential product and market information.
- Collaborate effectively with the AWG team to fulfill overall job responsibilities, emphasizing cooperation, integrity, and respect.
- This role necessitates proficient communication and computer skills, with a willingness to learn new technologies. Management will be kept updated on planning, analysis, and results. All required documentation must be complete, accurate, and submitted punctually.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Experience in retail grocery or wholesale grocery settings is preferred.
A degree is not mandatory, but relevant work experience in retail is advantageous; a minimum of 2 years of experience in grocery retail or wholesale is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including at least 2 years in a management capacity.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence. Capable of effectively communicating before groups of customers or employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to compute figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and address various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Capable of interpreting diverse instructions presented in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.
