Position Overview
The Makerspace Library Support Specialist plays a vital role in facilitating the operations of the library at Utah State University, particularly within the makerspace environment, while catering to the media requirements of students.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist at the circulation desk, providing support to patrons in checking in and out library resources and updating user information in the database.
- Manage the makerspace area, including organizing materials and programming, and collaborating with students on various maker projects.
- Guide and support students in developing their keyboarding skills, both individually and in group settings.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of the library/media collection and aid patrons in locating and utilizing resources effectively.
- Contribute to the upkeep of general and special collections by conducting inventories, shelving items, and searching for lost materials.
- Perform administrative tasks such as disseminating information, notifying patrons about overdue items, and collecting fines.
- Provide assistance to students during library sessions, both on an individual basis and in group activities.
- Step in to cover library duties in the absence of the head librarian.
- Support the Library Leader program as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience working with children.
- Background in customer service.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a library environment.
- Familiarity with makerspace technologies and materials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Positive and solution-focused attitude.
- Adaptable and quick to learn new concepts.
- Proficient with technology and various office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite).

Compensation
The hourly wage for this position is $13.50.
Work Environment
Employees will primarily work indoors, protected from outdoor elements, but may experience occasional temperature fluctuations. The role involves sitting for extended periods and frequently using repetitive hand motions. Employees may also need to reach with hands and arms and lift or move items weighing up to 10 pounds.
