About This Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Technology leader to join our team at American Airlines. As a key member of our Technology organization, you will be responsible for leading our platform engineering teams and driving the strategic direction of our core technical platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead platform engineering teams utilizing Agile and DevOps practices to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Champion the enterprise platforms strategy and roadmap, working closely with platform architects to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Develop and implement a reuse-first mindset, encouraging product teams to consume core services and promoting a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Focus on aligning platform services across enterprise leaders, ensuring seamless integration and a robust user experience.
  • Play a critical role in setting the platform engineering strategy and ensuring its execution for the enterprise, driving operational efficiency and impact.
  • Unlock enablement through leading the team responsible for defining and building core, reusable services, and implementing architectural designs and engineering processes that enable delivery teams.
  • Partner with development teams to evolve capabilities and facilitate practical automation solutions that can be consumed in a self-service manner.
  • Contribute to delivering quality-driven enterprise architecture-aligned and engineering practices across products, ensuring all systems run on supported technologies and platforms.
  • Manage budgets and personnel, engaging with leadership in the scoping and planning process, and supporting personnel through coaching, counseling, learning opportunities, and career development.
  • Manage vendor relationships and staff augmentation strategies, and attract, retain, and develop talent within a diverse team.
  • Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of shared data platforms, and drive business growth through strategic technology initiatives.
Requirements
  • Demonstrate the highest level of ethics and integrity, with a strong track record of leadership and technical expertise.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Systems Management, or a related field, with an Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Have 7 years of progressive leadership experience, including experience leading other technical managers and team members, and 10 years of experience in leading Agile, DevOps, and security practices to manage technology delivery.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to handle complex topics comfortably with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to adapt to unexpected events, new facts, and rapidly changing circumstances, and thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment.
  • Ability to think strategically, negotiate skillfully, digest complex details, and use sound judgment and initiative in making decisions.
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external resources, as well as manage relationships with 3rd party providers and partners.
  • Ability to build and facilitate relationships at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally, and self-driven with a natural aptitude for engaging employees in multiple workgroups.
