Veterinary Care Specialist

At Petco, we're committed to providing exceptional care to our furry friends and their owners. As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our hospitals run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide top-notch medical care to our patients and exceptional customer service to their owners.
- Assist veterinarians with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under the supervision of a credentialed veterinary technician.
- Perform patient restraint, collect laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications, and maintain electronic medical records.
- Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records.
- Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist with anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
- Under supervision, perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including administering medications and intravenous fluid therapy.
- Assist in the training of new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required.
- Keep the hospital environment clean and tidy, performing regular cleaning tasks as needed.
- 1+ year of experience working in a veterinary practice or equivalent animal care experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassion, sympathy, and a professional attitude in emotional and stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills.
- A team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and adapt to change.
The majority of job duties take place in the Veterinary Hospital. This role requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for extended periods. You'll spend a significant amount of time interacting with clients and their pets.
This position will regularly communicate with clients, veterinary specialists, and companies that provide products and services to our practice.
