Job Summary

This is a full-time regular position as a Laboratory Research Associate in the Behavioral Immunology Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh. The successful candidate will work on research projects examining the effects of psychological, social, and behavioral factors on the immune system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and analyze biomarkers from human blood, saliva, urine, and hair samples.
  • Prepare samples for storage, set up experiments/assays, and record results into study databases.
  • Assist with the maintenance of laboratory inventories and equipment.
  • Primary responsibility for maintaining the organization of the biological sample repository for large externally funded research projects.
  • Process and analyze hair samples to assess cortisol levels under the supervision of the laboratory manager.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and at least one year of research experience, including some time working in a biological laboratory.
  • Micro pipetting experience and experience with ELISA tests are preferred but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to sensitively interact with others.
  • Ability to multitask and make progress on multiple projects happening in parallel.
Work Environment

The incumbent must be able to sit for long periods and move easily around the research space. No heavy lifting is required. The incumbent may be asked to walk approximately 0.5 miles to and from a location within Oakland to deliver samples.
