Project Engineer

Baker Construction is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer, you will play a critical role in the success of our projects, working closely with the Project Manager to ensure timely and within-budget completion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the job transition process, including developing and managing project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with pre-construction and project teams to develop initial procurement plans, budgets, and scope of work.
  • Generate and obtain approval of technical records, including constructability reports, RFI's, inspection records, and work packages.
  • Manage work package closure, punch lists, and project turnover process, and approve pre- and post-pour checklists.
  • Collect necessary documentation to identify and determine impact of potential contract changes, disputes, and claims.
  • Lead LEAN/SQP committee and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure all subcontractors are in compliance with terms of subcontracts, generate, and obtain approval on impact notices as needed.
  • Review and confirm reports documenting compliance with prevailing wage, workforce utilization, MBE/SBE participation, etc., and advise the Project Manager of issues.
  • Interface with Safety and Risk Management in establishing clinics, managing first report of injuries, and assisting with co-worker case management.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years' of experience or 6 years' of construction related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of workers involved with the project.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry to practical situations.
  • Ability to understand Cost Accounting.
  • Basic understanding of construction software such as Primavera, Timberline, Vista and the like.
  • Ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets.
  • Ability to direct work and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of co-workers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to develop construction schedule via the critical path method.
  • Ability to understand contracts, specifications, drawings, and scope of work.
  • Ability to be proactive in maximizing our return on investment at all time.
