Job Title: Electrical Journeyman

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Journeyman to join our team at Walker Engineering. As an Electrical Journeyman, you will play a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems on various projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including wiring, conduits, and electrical apparatus.
  • Work under the guidance of a Foreman or Superintendent and may oversee and direct the work of a crew of 1 to 5 helpers or apprentices.
  • Interpret drawings and develop an overall crew work plan.
  • Lay out work and prep materials for installation.
  • Perform underground layout and rough-in.
  • Determine wire and conduit sizing.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, threaders, and hand or mechanical benders.
  • Install BUSS feeders.
  • Perform switchgear installation and terminations.
  • Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.
  • Operate any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
  • Understand and instruct assigned helpers in the safe operation of tools, use of equipment, electrical principles, and applicable codes.
  • Perform other project-related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.
  • Meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
Requirements:
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical, and English language skills.
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory and its application to installations.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime as required.
  • TDLR Journeyman's License, current Driver's License, and must have own reliable transportation.
  • High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program and have over 8000 hours of on-the-job work experience with a valid TDLR license.
Work Environment:

This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employee, subcontractors, and trades.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
  • Ability to comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects.
  • Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to move up or mount by using the hands or feet to include ladders, step stools, 8' to 10' ladders, extension ladders, stairways, and to bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend, downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees between 20-50 times daily.
