Overview
Pacific Rail Services is a leading provider of intermodal ramp services, handling over 8 million lifts per year. As a Heavy Equipment Loader, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient loading and unloading of containers, chassis, and trailers on and off railroad cars.
Compensation
The estimated annual salary for this position is $36,000 - $40,000 based on a 24/7 schedule with room for advancement. This includes health, dental, and vision benefits, 401K, paid time off after 90 days, yearly raises, and mandatory overtime.
Job Description
As a Heavy Equipment Loader, your primary responsibility will be to operate the overhead or side loader crane to load and unload containers and trailers onto railcars. This will involve:
- Lifting and moving heavy equipment to ensure proper positioning for loading and unloading operations.
- Verifying the condition of equipment before each use, including tire pressure, oil levels, hydraulic systems, lights, flashers, radio, and camera functionality.
- Ensuring all safety equipment is functioning correctly, including fire extinguishers.
- Activating work assignments through the onboard computer system.
- Maintaining awareness of surroundings to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Accurately verifying container, chassis, and trailer numbers.
- Communicating effectively with Ground Personnel and other team members to ensure seamless operations.
- Complying with HAZMAT and OSHA regulations.
- Sometimes assisting with hostling and ground person activities to accommodate workload demands.
Requirements
To be successful as a Heavy Equipment Loader, you must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a valid driver's license.
- Have advanced knowledge of the railroad industry gained through vocational education, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, or similar work experience.
- Pass a 7-year background check (any felony convictions within the last 7 years or jail time within the last 5 years will disqualify applicants).
- Pass a hair follicle drug test.
- Pass an IPCS Physical Capabilities Test.
