Elementary School Teacher

The Elementary Teacher is responsible for facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, and addressing specific educational needs of students.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroup of students.
- Maintain records as required by law, School Board policies and regulations, and strive to be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
- Work cooperatively with all staff members and interact in a positive manner with parents and other community representatives.
- Direct instructional assistants, student teachers, assistant teachers, and/or student volunteers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students.
- Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of achievement and classroom behavior.
- Demonstrate effective knowledge and use of curriculum content associated with the instructional assignment.
- Administer developmental testing programs and subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and/or to develop individual learning plans.
- Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with other professional staff, both school-based and non-school-based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management skills and delivery of instruction.
- Advise parents/guardians of student progress to communicate expectations and student achievement.
- Create partnerships with parents/guardians to develop methods for improvement and/or reinforcement of classroom goals in the home environment.
- Monitor students in a variety of educational environments to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress and inform appropriate persons when concerns arise.
- Demonstrate professional growth and attend all meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal, or Supervising Official.
- Must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Must hold or be eligible for endorsement in Elementary Education with the VA Department of Education.
- Experience in computer technology or willingness to pursue appropriate technology training as required by position.
- Must demonstrate effective knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.

- Tuberculosis Screening
