Job Title: School Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District #47. As a School Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing direct nursing services to students and staff, ensuring their health and wellness in the school community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy, and procedures.
  • Administer medication and treatment with appropriate documentation.
  • Maintain accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates, including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.
  • Perform mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing, requiring state credentials as a screener.
  • Make appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
  • Maintain communication with the certificated school nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action that meets the health and safety needs of students.
  • Contact parents regarding student absences, illness, or injuries.
  • Monitor communicable diseases and follow-up contact as needed under the guidance of the Certificated School Nurse.
  • Maintain student attendance records and prepare reports as directed.
  • Complete accident/incident reports for students and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
  • Maintain a daily log of student/staff visits and documentation on individual health records.
  • Maintain the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies.
  • Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
Requirements:
  • Currently registered in the State of Illinois.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program completion.
  • Illinois Certification as a Vision & Hearing Technician (as soon as accepted in the state certification class).
  • BSN Degree.
  • Active RN License.
  • Some experience in a hospital setting or similar acute care setting is preferable.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws.
Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, effectively communicating with parents and students, articulation, creativity, organizational skills, confidentiality, maintain a positive attitude, and cooperativeness.
  • Have the ability to work independently and manage time commitments.
  • Transportation required.
  • Strong identity with professional nursing standards and ethics.
