Job Description:
- Provide psychiatric care to adult, adolescent, and/or child patients by planning and implementing milieu treatment, considering patient needs and therapeutic goals.
- Collaborate with the nurse therapist to determine a milieu treatment approach and function as an active member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Administer initial psychological assessments and provide consistent individual counseling focused on treatment goals during hospitalization.
- Participate in milieu therapy for patients on an individual or group basis, leading or assisting in milieu groups, and incorporating knowledge of each patient's condition and application of various therapeutic techniques.
- Collaborate with other unit staff in assessing and evaluating patient's mental status, initiating and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with patients, and coordinating and implementing various aspects of milieu environment to provide a therapeutic experience for patients.
- Provide supportive care to patients, including participating in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities, and set limits, confront counterproductive activities and behavior, and reassure and orient patients.
- Record all appropriate information on patient charts and prepare regular reports describing each patient's mental status and functioning, as well as significant interactions.
- Provide support and education to family members and significant others regarding the patient's status and work with representatives of outside agencies in obtaining or disseminating information on individual patients.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a related field preferred.
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).
- BLS required.
Working Conditions:
- Patient care environment with periodic risk from combative or abusive patients.
- Regular walking and standing during normal course of duties.
