Job Summary
The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking a highly skilled Agricultural Technician to join our team. As an Agricultural Technician, you will work under the supervision of a Senior Environmental Scientist or Agricultural Pest Control Supervisor to conduct entomological or plant pest field and laboratory work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual surveys, eradication, and detection/delimitation trapping, and service various insect traps.
- Collect, process, and package suspect plant and insect samples for submission to the Plant Pest Diagnostics Center for identification.
- Draw maps to show exact geographic locations using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
- Complete Pest Damage Records and keep daily reports of work completed.
- Screen wet and dry traps for target pests and examine content visually to make preliminary identifications.
- Drive and operate a state motor vehicle safely and responsibly.
Working Conditions
The duties of this position are primarily conducted outdoors, and the incumbent works in extremes of weather and temperature. The work area can be urban or rural, and the technician may drive, exit, and re-enter the work vehicle numerous times during the workday.
Requirements
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
- Ability to work well under pressure and cooperate with other staff members in completing assigned work.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and meet required deadlines.
- Background check clearance prior to being hired.
