Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Plant Operator to join our team at St. James Parish Government. As a key member of our Operations Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our water treatment plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and Maintain Equipment: Control and operate electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate the flow of raw water into the treatment plant.
  • Chemical Treatment: Add specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
  • Water Quality Monitoring: Test water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of water quality, chemical usage, and equipment maintenance.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience as a Water Plant Operator Trainee.
  • Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver's License and pass the Water Treatment Operator Class I and Distribution Class I Certification or state temporary certificates.
  • Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts, perform physical labor, and have knowledge of computer systems.
Working Conditions

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be required to work a rotating shift and be available to respond to emergencies as needed.
