We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as an After School Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and implementing daily programs for school-age children, providing a safe and engaging environment that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and implement daily curriculum, activities, and events that align with Somerville Public School curriculum and promote student learning and development.
- Supervise and interact with children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Discipline children in accordance with SCAP policy, maintaining a positive and respectful relationship with students and families.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, including setup and maintenance of supplies.
- Follow program procedures to safeguard the health and safety of children, including serving and recording nutritious snacks daily.
- Communicate regularly with Administration, attending weekly team meetings and participating in parent meetings and events.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, attending monthly meetings and at least 10 hours of in-service workshops.
During the summer months, the After School Program Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Attending initial camp orientation, trainings, and assisting with camp setup.
- Orienting students to their group, explaining daily schedules, clubs, and field trips during Group Meeting Time.
- Maintaining an updated schedule of events, reviewing camp rules, regulations, and expectations.
- Setting expectations for maintenance of all camp supplies and materials.
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field, and six months of experience working with school-age children.
- Associate's degree and three months of experience working with school-age children in a supervised childcare setting, or credits towards an Associate's degree and relevant experience.
- Ability to set clear limits and supervise school-age students, experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.
- Ability to work with students with special educational or emotional needs.
The After School Program Coordinator will be expected to exert an extensive and frequent level of talking, seeing, hearing, walking, and swimming, as well as a moderate level of standing, sitting, walking, swimming, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, bending, climbing, and kneeling.
