Optometrist

The Kenaitze Indian Tribe seeks a skilled Optometrist to deliver high-quality clinical services to our patients. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for examining patients, testing their vision, and prescribing corrective lenses or other treatments as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Examine patients of all ages to detect signs of injury, disease, or vision defects
- Check for signs and symptoms of general health conditions, such as diabetes or hypertension
- Use specialized equipment for diagnosis and testing
- Prescribe medications and treatments as permitted by state laws
- Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing cataract and refractive surgery procedures
- Issue prescriptions for spectacles or contact lenses
- Fitting and checking prescribed lenses to correct vision defects
- Provide advice and reassurance about vision-related matters
- Communicate with other medical practitioners and share care of patients with chronic conditions
- Doctorate degree in Optometry
- Successful passage of all parts of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) national board exam
- Three years of experience in optometry
- Current Alaska State Optometry License in good standing
- Current DEA certificate and BLS certification
- A valid Alaska Driver's License and insurance to conduct Tribal business
- Critical thinking abilities with a high degree of accuracy
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Good organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
- Ability to keep up to date with scientific and technological principles, methods, and developments
- Excellent customer service skills with strong ethical standards
- Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and other regulations
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Records and Systems
This position requires light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The incumbent may be required to stand, sit, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk/hear, see, push, or pull, and perform repetitive motions.
Travel RequirementsTravel for training and meetings may be required.
