Job Summary

The Kenaitze Indian Tribe seeks a skilled Optometrist to deliver high-quality clinical services to our patients. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for examining patients, testing their vision, and prescribing corrective lenses or other treatments as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine patients of all ages to detect signs of injury, disease, or vision defects
  • Check for signs and symptoms of general health conditions, such as diabetes or hypertension
  • Use specialized equipment for diagnosis and testing
  • Prescribe medications and treatments as permitted by state laws
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing cataract and refractive surgery procedures
  • Issue prescriptions for spectacles or contact lenses
  • Fitting and checking prescribed lenses to correct vision defects
  • Provide advice and reassurance about vision-related matters
  • Communicate with other medical practitioners and share care of patients with chronic conditions
Requirements
  • Doctorate degree in Optometry
  • Successful passage of all parts of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) national board exam
  • Three years of experience in optometry
  • Current Alaska State Optometry License in good standing
  • Current DEA certificate and BLS certification
  • A valid Alaska Driver's License and insurance to conduct Tribal business

  • Good organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to keep up to date with scientific and technological principles, methods, and developments
  • Excellent customer service skills with strong ethical standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and other regulations
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records and Systems
Working Conditions

This position requires light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The incumbent may be required to stand, sit, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk/hear, see, push, or pull, and perform repetitive motions.

Travel Requirements

Travel for training and meetings may be required.
