As a premier professional theatre in Austin, ZACH employs over 250 talented actors, musicians, and designers each year to produce a diverse range of acclaimed plays and musicals that resonate with audiences in Central Texas, under the guidance of Producing Artistic Director Dave Steakley and Managing Director Jamie Herlich. Annually, ZACH reaches more than 125,000 individuals in Central Texas, including over 55,000 children and youth who benefit from our educational outreach initiatives, inspiring camps, and classes.
Role SummaryThe Grants Manager plays a pivotal role in achieving ZACH Theatre's fundraising objectives from Foundation and Government sources. This position involves conducting research, nurturing relationships, crafting proposals and applications, soliciting support, generating reports and acknowledgments, and ensuring effective stewardship to secure ongoing philanthropic contributions. Collaborating closely with the Director of Development, the Grants Manager is instrumental in establishing strategic partnerships, leveraging ZACH leadership and board members to secure essential funding. This role is integral to the Development team and requires coordination across various internal departments to enhance contributed income.
Key ResponsibilitiesGrants Management
- Identify and research potential institutional funding sources that align with ZACH Theatre's mission and programming.
- Compose persuasive letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and reports to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government entities.
- Tailor proposals to meet the specific priorities and requirements of each funding opportunity.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and submit project budgets and gather data for evaluations and proposals.
Stewardship and Program Oversight
- Work with the Director of Development to leverage ZACH leadership and board members to cultivate relationships with foundation and civic leaders that advance fundraising goals.
- Establish and maintain relationships with current and prospective Foundation and Government Funders through regular communication, meetings, and site visits.
- Collaborate with program staff to provide accurate and compelling information about ZACH's initiatives in reports and impact communications.
- Ensure fulfillment of funder benefits by collaborating across teams to guarantee accurate recognition, engaging experiences, and ticket fulfillment.
- Partner with team members to create and implement tailored stewardship plans for funders, customizing engagement opportunities to their interests and contributions.
- Maintain precise records and generate reports using the Tessitura database.
- Stay updated on trends and best practices in institutional giving and philanthropy.
- Assist with shared departmental duties as needed, including staffing the donor lounge and other responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of general fundraising experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
- At least 2 years of experience in corporate and/or foundation giving is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree in arts administration, communications, business, marketing, theatre, public relations, English, or a related field is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven success in securing corporate, foundation, government, and in-kind contributions, including philanthropic and sponsorship gifts.
- Comprehensive understanding of the grant process, including research, planning, writing, contracts, and reporting.
- Exceptional writing and editing capabilities.
- Strong organizational, planning, and budgeting skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects with overlapping deadlines effectively.
- Comfortable representing ZACH in interactions with business leaders, government officials, board members, and other high-profile individuals.
- A passion for theatre and arts initiatives that serve the community.
- Ability to perform all work in alignment with the vision, mission, and values of ZACH Theatre.
This role is based on campus with the flexibility for hybrid-remote work. The physical demands of this position include the ability to lift, push, pull, or maneuver up to 20 lbs repeatedly, either independently or with assistance. The work environment is typically busy, requiring the ability to perform tasks on a computer, communicate via phone, and interact with patrons and external parties. Reliable transportation and a flexible schedule, including availability for nights and weekends, are necessary. The noise level in this work environment may vary from moderate to high.
