Position Overview

This is a remote opportunity available to candidates in the Houston or Dallas regions.

Role Responsibilities

The forensic engineer will be tasked with identifying the specific causes of product, device, or material failures to enhance performance, longevity, or safety. Forensic Engineers are often engaged in product liability investigations and occasionally in criminal cases, providing analysis and testimony regarding design or failure sources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Investigate the origins and causes of failures, damages, or defects in civil/structural contexts across residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
  • Evaluate building system failures, determining causes, assessing construction quality, and reviewing design or maintenance protocols.
  • Engage in disaster response efforts, including hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and earthquakes.
  • Conduct field investigations, leading collaborative examinations and documenting property damage.
  • Research failure mechanisms and regulatory requirements as necessary, providing recommendations for repairs or remediation.
  • Draft precise, clear, and comprehensive reports and correspondence detailing the causes and origins of damages for clients, adhering to established policies and timelines.
  • Offer expert testimony in legal proceedings if required.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on extensive and complex projects.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and engage socially at various events.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field is essential.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • 5 to 7+ years of experience in design within residential, commercial, and industrial environments is advantageous.
  • Experience with commercial and industrial facilities is preferred.
  • Forensic experience is beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Suite and CRM tools.
  • Willingness to travel, primarily regionally/local with occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions and inclement weather.
  • Capability to work at heights, such as roofs or scaffolding, requiring physical agility and balance.
