Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering principles to design and develop civil and structural systems
  • Prepare material specifications for specific components
  • Develop advanced sketches and calculations for project segments
  • Assist in the development of technical specifications
  • Evaluate vendor bids and drawings for compliance with specifications
  • Visit vendor facilities to inspect structures and equipment
  • Interface with other disciplines and clients
  • Prepare material take-offs for civil/structural items
  • Review vendor drawings and steel fabrication drawings
  • Develop a focus on least cost and safe design for civil/structural systems
  • Maintain awareness of project schedule and budget

Requirements:

  • 3-7 years of progressive experience in civil/structural engineering, preferably in the petrochemical industry
  • PE certification or plans to sit for the PE examination
  • Texas PE preferred
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Word and Excel software
  • Ability to use engineering software programs, such as STAAD or RISA
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus

Work Environment:

The work environment for this position will be in an industrial setting, with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and the risk of electric shock. The noise level in the industrial workplace can be loud. The Engineer must exercise caution and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure their own safety and the safety of their co-workers.

Education Requirements:

A minimum of a BS in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited university is required.
