Position Overview

Role Summary: The incumbent will be tasked with the upkeep and sanitation of the college's facilities, including both buildings and outdoor areas. Responsibilities include snow removal and executing assigned work orders both independently and collaboratively. Additional duties may arise as directed by the Facility Operations Manager and Physical Plant Director, with occasional requirements for weekend and holiday work related to snow management.

Work Schedule: 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday shifts as necessary for snow removal or urgent cleaning tasks.

2nd Shift Differential: An additional $25 stipend per pay period for hours worked from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities

2. Complete all mandatory training and maintain the necessary skills to fulfill the essential functions of the role as defined by the department.
3. Contribute to Student Success, which is central to Western's mission, by being adaptable to other areas or additional responsibilities as assigned.
4. Cleaning and Maintenance Duties May Include:

  • Vacuuming carpets and mopping floors, including stain treatment and carpet extraction.
  • Dusting both vertical and horizontal surfaces.
  • Sanitizing restrooms and drinking fountains according to established protocols.
  • Cleaning elevators and glass surfaces.
  • Conducting general cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Performing emergency and project-related cleaning as required.

5. Snow Removal Responsibilities May Include:

  • Operating mechanical equipment such as skid steers, trucks with snow plows, and other snow removal machinery.
  • Shoveling walkways manually.
  • Applying ice melt through both mechanical and manual methods.
  • Transporting snow to off-campus locations using appropriate vehicles.

6. Work Order Management Responsibilities May Include:

  • Maintaining grounds and landscaping.
  • Facilitating furniture and equipment relocations.
  • Assisting with skilled trades and vehicle maintenance.
  • Utilizing computer systems for operational tasks and understanding equipment instructions.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education from a Technical College.
  • One year of experience in a custodial or related role.

Testing Requirements:

  • Physical ability to lift and carry 45 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Baseline hearing test and annual audiogram evaluations.

Licensing Requirement:

  • Valid Driver's License.
Additional Information

This position reports to the Facility Operations Manager.

The starting hourly wage is $22.07, commensurate with education and experience.
