Job Summary

Parkland Health and Hospital System is seeking a highly skilled Nursing Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our nursing department, you will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze nursing literature to identify best practices and recommend improvements to unit/department leadership.
  • Update nursing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current literature and professional standards.
  • Retrieve, analyze, and trend data from multiple sources to monitor nursing performance and develop reports, graphs, and presentations to distribute the data.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Education and Nursing Leadership to identify education needs and develop/deliver education content to improve nursing operations.
  • Work with Performance Improvement and other departments to ensure unit/department integration with system-wide initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology to optimize EPIC nursing documentation.
  • Identify gaps in nursing performance and develop education and/or monitoring plans to correct/improve nursing practice.
  • Perform project planning and roll out of division and house-wide initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing departments and other areas, including Safety & Risk, Quality Infection Control, Nursing Informatics/IT, Clinical Engineering, and HIM.
  • Collaborate with assigned leaders to establish projects, metrics, dashboards, and collect, organize, and monitor departmental quality, operation, and service line performance data.
  • Promote cross-departmental communication, collaboration, and performance improvement to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) or complete BSN within three years of hire/placement in role.
  • Prefer Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Five years of project and/or nursing experience, managing increasingly complex projects in a nursing department.
  • Information Technology or Nursing Informatics experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both education and experience requirements.
  • Current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing or valid Compact RN license.
  • Current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Strong EPIC documentation skills.
  • Strong database management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including command of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to mine, analyze, collate, and trend data.
  • Strong understanding of operations and hospital initiatives.
  • Knowledge of budget, charges, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team structure.
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability.
