Job Title: Direct Support Professional

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team at The Burton Center For Disabilities & Special Needs.

Job Summary:

The Direct Support Professional will implement an effective vocational training program for adults with disabilities and special needs, providing support and assistance with daily living skills, job training, and community integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals with self-help skills, such as toileting, eating, and personal care.
  • Implement facilitated plans to promote independence and self-advocacy.
  • Monitor individuals and complete monthly progress reports on all objectives.
  • Keep daily payroll sheets of work accomplished and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist in the evaluation and placement of individuals for various jobs and vocational training programs.
  • Transport individuals to and from The Burton Center and on field trips, ensuring safe and reliable transportation.
  • Report malfunctions and incidents immediately to the transportation supervisor.
  • Supervise individuals during pre-program breaks, lunch, and special activities, promoting a safe and supportive environment.
  • Provide one-on-one care to individuals as required, following their individualized plan of care.
  • Attend initial staff orientation, in-services, and workshops to enhance job performance and stay up-to-date on best practices.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • One-year experience in working with individuals with disabilities and special needs preferred.
  • Valid SC driver's license.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs frequently and 50lbs occasionally, and to stand or walk for long periods.

Physical Requirements:

The Direct Support Professional will be required to assist individuals in a workshop setting, including feeding and toileting, and to drive and transport individuals, including those with wheelchairs.
