The Perinatal Nurse Specialist is accountable for utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, age-appropriate, direct and indirect patient care, while practicing within the scope of practice of the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Department DescriptionThe Labor and Delivery team offers labor, delivery and recovery including post partum and newborn care by a highly trained team of nurses and medical staff in a family centered caring and medically safe environment. All sites are trained in GYN surgical care.
Responsibilities- Current unencumbered Oregon RN license required.
- Healthcare Provider Level BLS required.
- Basic Fetal Monitoring skills required.
- NRP required within six (6) months of hire.
- STABLE required within one (1) year of hire.
- Previous experience in Labor and Delivery preferred.
- Social Perceptiveness: Ability to work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and/or communicating with patients and caregivers.
- Ability to work in crisis situations.
- Ability to function effectively in high risk or diverse patient populations.
- Ability to initiate appropriate interventions in caring for the family during the immediate newborn period.
The Perinatal Nurse Specialist will be required to:
- Climb stairs.
- Lift up to 40 pounds.
- Stand for long periods.
- Walk on level surfaces.
- Perform manual dexterity tasks.
