Job Summary

Penn State's College of Agriculture, Berkey Creamery, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various duties related to the installation, maintenance, repair, disassembly, and reassembly of dairy processing equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance programs for equipment, pumps, valves, plumbing fixtures, and product fillers
  • Repair and interpret electrical schematic blueprints on processing equipment
  • Use and install programmable controllers
  • Inspect and repair refrigeration and cooling systems and equipment for proper operation
  • Replace or repair small non-ammonia refrigeration equipment
  • Use hand and power tools, and shop tools in the performance of duties
  • Oversee the loan of tools and equipment
  • Inform the Creamery Manager of any plant problems
  • Purchase needed supplies
  • Occasionally direct the work of others
Requirements
  • Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments
  • Broad training in a recognized trade or craft
  • Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education
  • Over 2 years up to and including 3 years effective experience
Work Schedule

6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

Additional Requirements

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
