Job Summary

We are seeking a Rehabilitation Counselor Intern to join our team at Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services. As a Rehabilitation Counselor Intern, you will work directly with youth and adults with disabilities to assist them in developing career goals and receiving the services, resources, and supports needed to reach that goal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine eligibility for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services by analyzing medical information and identifying disability-related barriers to employment
  • Assist job candidates in exploring careers and developing a plan for employment through the use of assessments and labor market information
  • Provide vocational counseling that assists job candidates in identifying their skills and strengths, addressing disability factors, exercising informed choice, and maintaining progress towards their employment plans
  • Support job candidates in accessing a variety of services, which may include training, assistive technology, benefits planning, supported employment, and job placement
  • Utilize the business services team to make connections with employers and provide services to employers that support hiring of individuals with disabilities
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a master's program in rehabilitation counseling, human resources, school counseling, mental health counseling, social work, psychology, education, or a closely related field
