Position Summary:

This role is under the supervision of the Store Manager and aligns with the mission, guiding principles, values, ethics, and strategic objectives of Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Inc. The individual in this position is tasked with overseeing the efficient movement of donated items from intake to retail, which encompasses receiving, processing, security, safety, loss prevention, merchandising, and sales operations. Additionally, this role involves performing all responsibilities of a Sales Associate and managing basic store functions in the absence of management. The position emphasizes delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders through effective communication and quality work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assigns and directs daily tasks to Sales Associates and Utility staff.
  • Utilizes independent judgment in decision-making.
  • Welcomes customers promptly upon their arrival, ensuring a positive shopping experience that aligns with agency standards.
  • Oversees the sorting and grading of donations and truck deliveries to maintain well-stocked stores with quality merchandise. Donations are appropriately allocated to designated areas, and counts are accurately recorded.
  • Manages cash register operations to ensure all transactions are processed efficiently, minimizing wait times for customers.
  • Identifies suitable merchandise for online sales and processes accordingly.
  • Marks and organizes new merchandise in accordance with established procedures.
  • Greets donors courteously at their vehicles and assists with unloading items, ensuring a positive donation experience.
  • Offers tax receipt forms to all donors.
  • During donor interactions, sorts materials to ensure that 95% of unsellable items are directed to waste or salvage.
  • Accountable for meeting daily production goals.
  • Maintains vigilance to prevent theft and promptly reports any suspicious activities to management.
  • Assists with general maintenance tasks such as snow removal, light bulb replacement, and window cleaning.
  • Trains and guides new team members on job responsibilities, agency policies, ethical standards, and best practices.
  • Delegates job tasks under the Store Manager's guidance and holds team members accountable for adhering to best practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures the store and donation area are maintained in excellent condition by prioritizing cleanliness and safety. Communicates repair and maintenance needs as necessary.
  • Conducts monthly Store Inspections, Health/Safety Checklists, and drills.
  • Collaborates within the department to enhance service opportunities and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Creates staff schedules.
  • Provides insights to the Store Manager regarding team member performance evaluations.
  • Recommends corrective actions to the Store Manager, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
  • Completes the store's opening and closing procedures as required.
  • Verifies and submits daily paperwork, deposits, and reports as instructed by the Store Manager.
  • Timely submission of Truck Orders.
  • Communicates any new or unusual information to the Store Manager promptly.
  • Assists in preparing outgoing truck loads, including baling, sorting, and organizing, and aids the truck driver with loading and unloading.
  • Minimizes waste and maximizes salvage revenue by recycling products efficiently.
  • Ensures equipment is safe for operation and that all safety measures are implemented.
  • Operates forklift equipment.
  • Completes all job duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of any combination of military service, high school, or relevant full-time employment may be considered as a substitute.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, assign, and delegate daily tasks to team members.
  • Capacity to exercise independent judgment.
  • Possesses a positive attitude and inspires similar enthusiasm in others.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to fifty pounds with assistance.

  • Reliable transportation and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
