The Deputy Port Attorney IV is expected to exercise significant independent judgment and initiative while representing internal clients. The incumbent may handle the most challenging cases as designated special projects, ensuring that all legal matters are addressed with expertise.
The primary responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to:
- Advising on environmental compliance, including hazardous materials remediation and associated litigation;
- Providing counsel on insurance matters and related legal disputes;
- Facilitating commercial real estate transactions, particularly secured transactions;
- Managing all aspects of utility regulations, including the establishment of rates and service costs;
- Ensuring adherence to transparency regulations, including open meeting laws and public records management.
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a degree from an accredited institution (a Juris Doctorate is advantageous), along with a minimum of seven years of professional legal experience, particularly in real estate law. Additionally, candidates must be active members of the California State Bar Association and hold the necessary licenses to practice law in various California courts and the District of Columbia.
