Job Summary
The California Correctional Health Care Services is seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant to join our team in a correctional facility setting. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory operations, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and process laboratory specimens, materials, and supplies in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Assist in operating specialized laboratory equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, and other instruments.
- Comply with all applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures related to laboratory operations.
- Maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates in the laboratory area, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Protect and maintain the safety of persons and property in the laboratory and surrounding areas.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless laboratory operations and high-quality patient care.
Requirements
- Six months of experience in laboratory work similar to that described in the job description.
- Education: Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
- Satisfactory completion of a formalized laboratory work experience and training program of at least three months' duration, such as those conducted under the Job Training Partnership Act or similar work experience programs conducted by state agencies.
Working Conditions
- Travel is required.
Special Requirements

- Possession of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
- Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment.
