MEDA is dedicated to empowering low and moderate-income Latino families in San Francisco by fostering economic equity and social justice through various initiatives. Our organization focuses on creating opportunities for asset building and community development, which includes:

  • Comprehensive Asset Building Programs encompassing housing, financial literacy, workforce enhancement, business growth, and tax assistance.
  • Serving as a pivotal agency to promote educational success and economic advancement through the Mission Promise Neighborhood initiative.
  • Facilitating the creation and preservation of affordable housing and commercial properties in the Mission District.
  • Providing innovative financial solutions and access to capital through Fondo Adelante.
  • Engaging in Policy & Advocacy efforts that align with our mission.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking to enhance our leadership team with the addition of a Chief Program Officer (CPO).

The CPO will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for overseeing MEDA's client-focused programs, which include:

  • Family Economic Success initiatives
  • Mission Promise Neighborhood – School-Based and Family Support Services
  • Fondo Adelante - our Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and Business Development program

Leaders from these areas will report to the CPO, who will collaborate across departments to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to MEDA's strategies. As a vital member of MEDA's Executive Team, the CPO will drive innovation, enhance program integration, and support a high-performing workforce. We are looking for a dynamic leader with a strong commitment to racial equity and a deep understanding of the Latino community. This individual should be adept at connecting overarching strategies with practical implementation to achieve meaningful outcomes for our community. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, skilled in strategic and programmatic planning, and proficient in team building and sustainability planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Design & Development

  • Oversee the Directors of three essential MEDA programmatic departments, providing leadership, guidance, and support for staff development and program management.
  • Assist Program Leaders in developing, scaling, and innovating programs, addressing challenges, and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Program Leaders to ensure strategic planning and annual action plans align with program needs and integration opportunities.
  • Support strategic business planning to ensure programs are effectively addressing growth and capacity needs.
  • Lead new initiatives and community response efforts that involve multiple programmatic departments.
  • Initially focus on developing a new initiative to create cooperative business models with immigrant worker-owners, including designing a curriculum for cross-departmental collaboration.

Cross-Departmental Integration

  • Facilitate service integration among departments to maximize client access to a comprehensive range of services.
  • Work with Program Leaders and the Evaluation team to ensure accurate data collection that reflects MEDA's impact.
  • Engage in fundraising activities alongside development and Program Leaders, including grant writing and budget design.
  • Represent MEDA's programmatic work at conferences and meetings with stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance and risk management systems are effectively implemented at the department level.
  • Collaborate with fundraising and communications teams to effectively communicate MEDA's impact story.

Community & Organizational Leadership

  • Participate in MEDA's Management and Executive Teams, ensuring alignment between programs and organizational departments.
  • Provide thought leadership and advocacy for MEDA's programs through written content and presentations.
  • Represent MEDA in various community and national coalitions, fostering strategic partnerships with other organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience leading high-performing teams with a collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to develop and implement comprehensive work plans.
  • Strategic thinker capable of navigating complex projects and aligning vision with operational details.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with experience managing change and developing new systems.
  • Minimum of 10 years in a leadership role within relevant programmatic areas.
  • Experience managing budgets exceeding $1 million.
  • Familiarity with Results Based Accountability and/or Collective Impact methodologies is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to racial equity and familiarity with Latino and immigrant communities.
  • Bilingual Spanish proficiency is preferred.
