Opportunity Overview
The VCUarts Emerging Artist Fellowship in Craft/Material Studies offers a unique, one-year residency designed for recent MFA graduates. This program allows fellows to focus on their artistic practice, engage with a vibrant community, and gain essential teaching experience within an interdisciplinary and socially conscious environment.

Key Responsibilities
Fellows will:
  • Teach two courses each semester (8 credits per semester).
  • Deliver a public presentation or engage in a panel discussion.
  • Possibly serve as a guest critic or speaker in various classes.
  • Have the potential for a solo exhibition opportunity.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
  • Be artists primarily working with fiber, with a preference for those experienced in weaving.
  • Possess a solid understanding of their material and demonstrate innovative approaches.
  • Hold an MFA degree obtained within the last five years, excluding VCU MFA students and graduates, as well as those who have previously taught at VCU.

Qualifications
Successful candidates will exhibit:
  • The ability to instruct undergraduate studio classes at various levels, emphasizing both conceptual and technical skill development.
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
  • Strong collaborative skills and a passion for teaching and engaging with students and faculty.

Compensation
Fellows will receive:
  • A part-time adjunct faculty contract with an instructional salary.
  • Support for creative research and travel.
  • This position is a one-year, non-renewable opportunity.
