Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Humanities Lecturer to join our faculty pool at San José State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of courses in the Humanities, including core skills courses, global humanities courses, and possibly Humanities Honors courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a variety of courses in the Humanities, including HUM100W, HUM190, and HUM128, as well as possibly American Studies and Religious Studies courses.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Hold regular office hours for students, work cooperatively with other department faculty and staff, and participate in required course grading and assessment activities.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes.
Requirements
  • ABD (All but dissertation) or Ph.D. in a relevant interdisciplinary field such as Humanities, Women's Studies, Ethnic Studies, American Studies, etc.
  • Demonstrated strong college-level teaching skills and experience required.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in and record of scholarly activity desirable.

Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. To learn more about range placement, please see University Policy S21-2.

Anticipated starting salary:

L-A / Range 2 - $5007 - $5675

L-B / Range 3 - $5925 - $7125

L-C / Range 4 - $6500 - $8982

L-D / Range 5 - $8184 - $9854

Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty--part-time rates are prorated.
