Position Summary
The Chief Estimator will oversee the estimating division, ensuring accuracy in all estimates, aiding in budget preparation, and facilitating effective communication with operations for smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with estimators and project management teams to create detailed sections of schematic, design development, and construction documents.
2. Lead the estimating team in delivering comprehensive estimates in a timely manner.
3. Conduct thorough analyses of drawings and specifications to confirm all necessary documentation is present and define the scope of work.
4. Develop complete estimates that reflect project requirements.
5. Critically assess bid documents, identifying risks and opportunities, and communicate findings to management.
6. Organize the bid team, providing leadership regarding methods, schedules, and strategies.
7. Engage in technical proposals for Alternative Delivery projects.
8. Create detailed crew and production cost estimates, reviewing them with the estimating team.
9. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing as needed.
10. Attend pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required.
11. Develop accurate unit costs and perform technical reviews when necessary.
12. Monitor actual costs against estimates, maintaining a comprehensive project cost history.
13. Manage and update the subcontractor database and prequalification processes.
Relationship Management
Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups, ensuring alignment with company values and exceeding customer expectations.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience as a construction estimator.
- Strong grasp of accounting and project management principles.
- Proficient in research methodologies, data analysis, and estimation metrics.
- Comfortable working with numbers and technology.
- In-depth knowledge of bid software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Well-organized and capable of managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with architectural plans and cost estimation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Bid2Win software.
- Strong understanding of public works construction.
