Geochemist – Mid Level Position

Job Summary:
Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a skilled geochemist to join its team and contribute to the company's growing geochemical practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geochemistry and experience working on projects related to resource development, waste and mine water management, and the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with environmental site assessments, investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor, and waste rock characterization studies.
- Conduct geochemical data analysis, develop qualitative and quantitative geochemical models, and prepare technical reports.
- Work on-site to observe drilling and monitoring well installation, classify soil and bedrock samples, and collect samples for field screening and laboratory analysis.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, or a related field.
- 6 or more years of practical experience in the geochemistry field.
- Academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities and successful completion of a field or research course.
- Specific experience with building and interpreting thermodynamic equilibrium geochemical models.
- Experience with geochemical testing methods for water chemistry.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, environmental science, or related field.
- Coursework related to groundwater flow and transport.
- PG or PE licensure or ability to obtain licensure within one year.
- Experience in environmental consulting.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations.
