Tax Examining Technician

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is seeking a highly skilled Tax Examining Technician to join our team. As a Tax Examining Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of tax returns and investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed examinations of tax returns and investigations to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies.
- Analyze taxpayer records, third-party records, and financial data to identify trends and patterns.
- Prepare and assemble work papers, schedules, and exhibits to support examination findings.
- Reconcile subsidiary accounts with general ledger control accounts for receivables, payables, work-in-progress, inventory, and property accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of examination reports, including the computation of tax liability using Report Generation Software (RGS) or other software.
Requirements:
- One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service.
- Experience using automated systems (i.e., Accurint, FinCen, and IDRS) to research a taxpayer and provide a written report of findings.
- Experience recognizing indications of tax fraud and abuse.
- Experience communicating with customers orally or in writing in a variety of situations to document and summarize information obtained from various third parties.
- Experience using spreadsheets to assist in interpreting data and preparing reports.
